Coaching questions
Do I need to know how to play already?
No. Melissa works with brand-new players as well as beginners who want more confidence.
Is Coaching different from the free Beginner Guide?
Yes. The Beginner Guide explains the rules. Coaching is designed to teach you how to actually use those rules and make decisions.
Where does Melissa teach in person?
Bergen County, New Jersey.
Can Melissa teach a group?
Yes. Depending on the session, Melissa can work with individuals or small groups of approximately 5–6 players.
Are lesson request times guaranteed?
No. A submitted time is a preference. Melissa will contact you to confirm the final schedule.
How do virtual lessons work?
After the time and payment are confirmed, Melissa will provide a meeting link.
What is Guided Play?
Rather than teaching the rules from scratch, Melissa joins your group while you play and helps players reason through their hands and decisions.
Can I reschedule?
Confirmed lessons may be rescheduled at no charge with at least 24 hours' notice.
Does private coaching include Mahjong Compass?
The intended benefit is 30 days of Compass+ after a confirmed paid lesson.
What is Melissa's digital course?
Melissa's 2026 Learn to Play will be an interactive course using the current card, curated racks, guided practice, and Compass analysis. It is coming soon.
